About This Place
I'm Nathan. I've spent most of my adult life somewhere between games, software, and trying to make teams run a little smoother. This site is an archive and a workspace: a place to stash the projects, writing, and half-formed ideas that I don't want to lose.

02 Background
I've been making games and adjacent things since I was a kid. Started with paper RPGs and moved through every medium I could get my hands on: digital games, LARPs, card games, experimental formats that don't have names yet.
Professionally, I've worked in product and production roles across games, platforms, and tools. I'm drawn to problems that sit at intersections: design and engineering, player experience and business constraints, what we wanted to build and what we actually shipped.
I write because it helps me think. Sometimes the writing is about games; sometimes it's about everything around them.
03 Things I Believe
Systems are poems.
A good game system says something. It has a point of view. The rules are an argument about how the world works.
Respect people's time.
Most people who play games are busy adults. Design for them. Make the interesting decisions frequent, not rare.
The interesting stuff is at the edges.
Genre boundaries, role boundaries, medium boundaries: they're all more porous than they seem. Cross them.
Ship things.
Ideas are cheap. Finished things are rare. A shipped prototype teaches more than a perfect plan.
