Unreal Network Engineer (Remote)

Wings of Liberty is looking for an Unreal Network Engineer and Netplay specialist with triple A experience building multiplayer online games that make heavy use of netcode. We're building a highly competitive game and we are looking for someone who knows how to get into the guts of Unreal's Networking and optimize it for razor precision gaming. The candidate should have an extensive knowledge of the Unreal engine with respect to networking, server setup, and lag reduction in a live game setting, and work closely with the team to develop solutions that allow for fast, responsive gameplay online. Bonus if candidate has experience working with AWS or other cloud based server solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Development of custom systems for connecting players to servers
  • Creation of server structure using AWS or alternatives
  • Optimizing network to reduce server costs and latency
  • Creation of networking code to enable reconnects, proper disconnects, and so on
  • Ideation of networking code to compensate for lag tolerance, high ping environments, and related
  • Creation of networking solutions for hit-scan gameplay and timed projectiles to create consistent gameplay experience
  • Interfacing with game developers to make accessing networking functions simple
  • Documentation of networking solutions for internal resource
  • Interfacing with Unreal and its feature set with respect to netplay
